In August 1989, 20 people met and South Salem Seniors came into being. We now have in excess of 800 members. Articles of Incorporation were filed on October 13, 1989 and the IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit classification was received August 22, 1991. Our first home was rented space in the Old Pringle School. Then Scottish Rites Lodge leased us two rooms for office and some activities and in 1993 rented us land to house two modular buildings. We moved into our permanent home at 6450 Fairway Avenue in August of 2002.

Our funding (which maintains and operates our building and retired our mortgage) is all up to our members volunteers. We do not receive any assistance or funds from federal, city nor state agencies. These fund raising activities include (but are not limited to):

  • Recycling of newspapers, junk mail, telephone books etc. (A daily activity)
  • Rummage Sales (twice yearly) and weekdays plus the first Saturday of the month
  • Monthly Pancake Breakfast
  • Gift Shoppe
  • Mentoring Program
  • Donations
  • Yearly Membership Fee of $20.00
