Welcome to the South Salem Senior Center! Our Center has being serving the needs of people 50+ for over 30 years. We're dedicated to making your life fun, with purpose and friendship. This Center began in a living room here in South Salem, and expanded into the old Pringle Schoolhouse briefly, then into a location on Commercial Street. The present location on Fairway Avenue was purchased and the Center expanded. Today we have doubled the size of the building.
We are a 501 3(c) Non-profit, which means we get no tax money for support and raise all our own funds to pay for expenses and growth. We do considerable fundraising, have no paid staff, accept charitable and estate donations, and are run by an unpaid group of dedicated officers and board members, and a large all volunteer staff. One of the reasons we ask our members to participate in volunteering in some way is so we can all share in ownership of this bright and lively organization.
We offer card and board game activities, pool playing, art and craft activities, an extensive library of books/puzzles/movies/music, bingo (Fridays), lunch everyday, coffee/cookies all day, classes in a variety of subjects, exercise classes, potlucks and special holiday dinners/lunches, lots of fun fundraising activities, rummage room, gift shop, and....MORE!
You have to see our well stocked Nifty Thrifty rummage room (open 5 days a week and some weekends) and gift shop which contain many estate donated items! Furniture, household items, clothes, jewelry, tools, sports equipment, often wheelchairs/walkers, artwork and more. It is good quality items at very fair prices. This is also one of our biggest ongoing fundraisers. (We pick up and deliver! Got things to donate? Call us and our volunteers can pick it up. We ALSO deliver when you buy furniture!)
I urge you to come on by for a visit, take a tour, meet our friendly members, have lunch.
