The South Salem Senior Center is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization and is solely dependent on Volunteer labor, donations, and various Fund Raising activities. The following are some of the ongoing as well as special activities the Center uses for meeting operational costs.
Saturday Pancake Breakfast. Everyone's favorite! Scheduled from 8-11 AM on the third Saturday of each month. Open to the public.
Gift Shoppe. Come and visit us. You can find many trinkets and treasures here. Open to the public.
Nifty Thrifty Rummage Rooms. We offer clothing, furniture, home goods, etc. for sale. Our inventory changes frequently so come check our store for treasures and/or bargains. We're open from 8 am until 3 pm, Monday - Friday. We are also open on the first Saturday of the month from 9 am until 1 pm. Open to the public.
We have one of the area's favorite rummage sales offered bi-annually. (Click here)
I’m sure you have noticed the yellow (sometimes white) boxes in parking lots, all over Salem, that say South Salem Seniors. These are collection boxes for our Newspaper Recycling program. Monday through Thursday at least two of our crew of men pick up all papers (which includes telephone books, magazines, catalogs, and junk mail) that have been placed there and take them to the Recycling Company. We have two cargo vans that are used for this purpose. We collect between one and two tons of paper each day. See Locations:
At least ten of our members are involved in this ongoing activity on a weekly basis and another five are substitute drivers and helpers in this great endeavor. This is an area that we are always looking for help.
